Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies

About the Institute Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies (RCBS) is a Centre for Excellence under the Rajagiri Group of Institutions which is managed by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) congregation. RCBS has under its umbrella Rajagiri College of Social Sciences (Autonomous) offering MBA and MHRM programmes, Rajagiri Business School offering the PGDM programme & Rajagiri International Institute for Education and Research offering International Management Programme (Twinning MBA).Rajagiri College of Social Sciences has been granted autonomous status by University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2014 with effect from June 1, 2014.

The PGDM Programme at Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and has been recognized as equivalent of MBA degree of an Indian University by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with effect from June 1, 2012.

Rajagiri - A CMI Initiative

The Rajagiri Institutions were born out of the educational vision of Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of CMI congregation. Blessed Chavara was a great educationalist and social reformer of the 19th century. . The Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the first indigenous religious congregation of India with a membership of over 2500, renders its service to humanity in educational, social, health care and other activities aiming at the integral development of the society. The CMI vision for education places emphasis on the development of humane individuals, proficient, competitive and at the same time sensitive to the world around. The CMIs are spread throughout India and abroad in thirteen Provinces. Presently the CMIs manage nearly 500 educational institutions across the country and offer academic programs that range from pre-primary to post doctoral levels. The CMIs strive towards establishing new systems, of high quality, in the field of education. A lot of emphasis is given to introducing educational programs in new disciplines, and this effort has been widely recognized and acknowledged. The CMIs have also done a lot of work in the field of special education, for the mentally and physically challenged

PROGRAMMES OFFERED

MBA - Master of Business Administration

The Master of Business Administration is a two - year full time programme spread over four semesters and a summer internship. The first semester lays the foundation in fundamentals of management. The second semester lays the foundation in the functional areas of specialization. Specialization are offered in the areas of Finance, Marketing, and Operations. Keeping in the mind the complexity of business, all students are required to take up specialization in two areas.

The MBA programme was launched at Rajagiri in the year 1995. The University Grants Commission granted autonomous status to Rajagiri College of Social Sciences (RCSS) with effect from June 1, 2014. The programme is also accredited by National Board of Accreditation, provisionally for 2 years with effect from july 2015. The curriculum under the autonomous status is designed by RCSS to enable students to evolve into professionally competent managers, ready to face challenges of any organization. The MBA programme is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

PGDM - Post Graduate Diploma in Management

The PGDM programme at RCBS evolved from the need for an innovative academic programme that aims to ignite the passion in students to excel. The programme aims to groom prospective managers with the right conceptual foundations, analytical skills and application abilities to help organization attain and maintain the crucial competitive edge with managers who can lead from the front.

The PGDM programme at RCBS is offered by Rajagiri Business School which was established in 2008. It is a two year full time course spread over six trimesters and a summer internship.

Launched in 2008, the PGDM offered in RCBS is a two-year full time course spread over six trimesters and a summer internship. The PGDM course is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and recognized as equivalent to MBA Degree of an Indian University by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The programme is designed on the principle that a proper balance of theory and practice is needed to aid managerial skill formation for effective decision-making and problem solving in the globalized environment.

The programme is given 'A' rating nationally and 'A**' rating at the state level by the acclaimed rating agency, CRISIL and the reputation of this programme has been continually evolving through the RCBS rigorous selection process (valid score in CMAT/MAT/CAT, Group Discussion and Personal Interview), the academic rigor and the application oriented learning

MHRM - Master of Human Resource Management

Keeping in pace with the development in management education, the full fledged Post Graduate Programme called M.A. (PM & IR) was revamped and transformed into Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM). The MHRM programme at RCBS affiliated to M.G. University, Kottayam is a two year full time programme spread over four semesters and a summer internship. The primary objectives of the course is to encourage students towards the value of Human Resource Management to train and help them to learn experientially and to prepare them effectively for careers in the area of Human Resources Management and its allied fields. As the flagship programme of Rajagiri, MHRM offers the students practical exposure to the industry through industrial visits and concurrent field works during their academic period. This brings more glimpses about the indusrty and how it functions in real time. Some of the prominent organizations which are part of this arena are Sud-Chemie India Pvt. Ltd., Synthite Industries Ltd., Apollo Tyres Ltd., Taj Group of Hotels, Future Group, Federal Bank Ltd. and so on.

As part of the experiential learning provided to our students through field work exposure, RCBS organizes scheduled concurrent field work for every batch. Concurrent Field Work is an opportunity given to the MHRM students in their third semester to get real time exposure of an HR department by spending one day every week in an organization.

Well Equipped Classrooms

The classrooms in RCBS are well-planned and spacious to facilitate long hours of teaching and interaction. All classrooms have network connectivity and are equipped with the latest audio-visual aids to facilitate presentations.

Library

The libraries serve as the source of stimulation and rejuvenation for the Rajagirians and are well stocked with books, international magazines, and journals, periodicals, research papers and CDs.

Computer Centres

The computer centres have an elaborate network of workstations and a campus wide network with Wi-Fi access to internet.

Communication Laboratory

The communication laboratory is equipped with studio facilities, offers special courses in the areas of communication, individual and group behaviour, presentation skills and interview training. The laboratory provides facility for recording and playback of exercises as well.

Auditoriums

The Chavara Hall is named after Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara and has a seating capacity of 1300. RCBS also has fully air conditioned auditoriums and conference halls where seminars, conferences and other events are conducted and a beautiful amphitheatre for recreation purposes.

Pareeksha Bhavan

The Pareeksha Bhavan is the examination centre of the campus. All examinations of RCBS are held in Pareeksha Bhavan, which can accommodate 600 students at a time.

Canteen

Our canteen is run by specialist restaurateurs who provide both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals and other tasty delicacies as well.

Hostels

All students of RCBS are provided with accommodation on campus in well-appointed rooms in RCBS hostels. Separate hostel facilities are available for the boys and girls. The hostels have 24 hours internet connectivity, student mess facilities, study halls, television and telephone facilities.

Health Club & Sports Facilities

Modern gymnasiums (separate for boys and girls), football / cricket ground, lawn tennis court, volleyball / basketball courts and jogging track are available for all students. Facilities for indoor games like table tennis, caroms and chess are also available.

Incubation cell

RCBS incubation centre aims to create an ecosystem for promoting entrepreneurship among RCBS students and provides a platform for emerging startups from campus. The management provides all facilities and guidance to the incubate companies to transform bright ideas into viable business models.

Enhancing Campus Presence

Placement cell is an important integral part of Office of Corporate Relations which conducts its activities through the Director, Asst. Director and the Executive Placements, who are assisted by a committee chosen from among the students. The primary works of the committee include long term activities such as promoting relations with the recruiters, working on a positioning strategy for short term activities such as interfacing with relevant faculty to frame placement related policies, planning, and executing the summer and final placements.

Placement Process

Invitations along with the recruitment brochure and JAF (Job Announcement Form) are sent to recruiters. After receiving the filled JAF, the pre-placement talk dates are finalized in consultation with the company. The relevant information is then passed on to the students and then posted on the students’ portal. Students register online for the pre-placement talk. The dates are allotted to the companies based on the company profile, compensation package and career prospects. The company is given access to student details according to the company recruitments. After the recruitment procedure is conducted on the allotted date, the companies announce the list of selected students to the placement cell officials. Companies are requested to provide the list of selected students to the placement cell officials preferably on the same day. In case, the list is not provided on the same day, the students will be allowed to apply to companies conducting placements on the following days until Placement cell is informed about the lost of selected students.

Placement information

The placement cell handles each and every aspect of placement at Rajagiri. The placement cell officials and volunteers provide all possible assistance to recruiters in arranging pre placement discussions, conducting tests, interviews etc. Arrangements are made in centrally air-conditioned auditoriums and lecture halls fully equipped with all the latest multimedia and Wi-Fi facilities for pre placement talks etc. Fully equipped seminar and conference rooms are available for group discussions and personal interviews. The hospitality and functioning of the placement cell has been acknowledged by recruiters every year.

Location

Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies is situated in Kakkanad, a pleasant green suburb of Cochin, outside the hustle and bustle of city life. Rajagiri valley, which houses the Rajagiri campus is a sprawling 95 acre estate on the banks of Chitrapuzha. It is close to the recently started IT hub, Info Park and only two kilometres away from the Cochin Special Economic Zone. It enjoys the advantage of being located in the neighbourhood of the proposed Smart City and the industrial heart of Ernakulam. Thus students get hands-on experience on the working of the industry while enjoying the amenities of city life.

Rajagiri Immersive Learning Experience

RCBS places great emphasis on the holistic development of every individual. Apart from academics, the students are exposed to programmes and activities which train them to survive the most turbulent business environment and come out with flying colours. The following activities give the students the opportunity to exhibit and to develop their managerial capabilities:

Industry interaction

The college organizes various industry interaction sessions with professionals from different walks of life. During these sessions, the professionals share their industry experience with the students, thereby enabling students to understand the professional arena better. The students are also active participants in the interaction programmes conducted by National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), SHRM and Kerala Management Association (KMA).

Forms

'Forum of Rajagiri Management Students' is a student body that focuses attention on the various non academic activities of the college. This student body organizes the fests and various festivities in the college. 'FORMS' taps the potential of aspiring managers by conducting a national level management fest (lnflore), business discussions, debates and corporate quizzes. This offers students a challenging environment where they can demonstrate their managerial skills, talents and abilities.

Clubs

RCBS has clubs to organize activities related to core academic areas and to arrange presentations by prominent personnel from the industry. The various clubs include: Finance Club, HR Club, Marketing Club, Operations Club, Systems Club, Quizzing Club, Entrepreneur Club, Cultural Club and Debate Club.

Transcend

It is the student body of RCBS responsible for social outreach activities. Rajagiri Transcend continuously strives towards humanitarian welfare and to this end has been involved in a number of activities to bring hope and cheer in the lives of many.

Summer Internship

In keeping with the demand of the corporate world for students to have had 'live experiences', Rajagiri sends its students for 'Summers'. The Summer Internship is an intensive two months training programme in corporate houses across India. This summer internship exposes students to the nitty-gritty of business and provides hands-on experience to supplement the pedagogy. This opportunity is made use of by students to identify their real areas of interest for functional specialization and ensures that students choose the area that suits them best.

Rural Sensitization Camp

It is a weeklong rural management training programme aimed at inculcating social sensitivity among students, thereby encouraging them to creatively address the social issues around them. The students are taken to a rural area and exposed to an environment totally devoid of the comforts of modern lifestyle. This gives them a first-hand experience of managing with limited resources, crisis management and organized team work

Vanavasam

'Vanavasam' is a three day programme aimed at unveiling "the self" in the silence of the woods. Based on MBTI personality test, students learn about themselves through self-introspection and peer group observation. It aims at shaping students behavior in an organizational perspective and at nurturing good corporate citizens. Conducted in far away forest destinations, the programme includes trekking expeditions and meditations.

Kalypso

An outbound training programme by Kalypso Adventures, Munnar, it is designed to bring out management skills of the students. The students benefit through the practical experience they gain by taking part in different outdoor activities. The harshness of the natural environment inculcates hardiness and discipline among students. These activities create situations to bring out the management skills of planning, organizing, decision making, communication, team building and even adaptability in the students.

Inflore

'Inflore', the RCBS Management Fest, is a stage for Rajagirians to showcase their managerial skills. It is a programme managed completely by students and it brings together prospective managers from more than 60 B-Schools across India, including the IIMs. There are more than 20 events organized as part of Inflore. The fest is theme based and allows students to give expression to their innovative ideas and organizational skills.

Rajagiri National Business Quiz

The Rajagiri National Business Quiz seeks to bring together sharp minds from the corporate and the student community to take on the ultimate quizzing challenge and win the much coveted 1st place prize money of Rs. 1, 00,000. Since its inception in 2010, the quiz has been hosted by the renowned quiz master Mr. Rohit Nair.
